Garfield Park Conservatory

A few Sunday's ago we borrowed a car and went to find some warmth.
Here Rudy and I are outside the conservatory all bundled up against the cold.

John and Margot in front of the conservatory which was built in the early 1900's.

Once inside we took all our layers off (even taking Margot's socks off after a while)! It was so warm my glasses and the camera lens fogged up, as you see in the image below. It does make for a lovely dreamy image.

This was Rudy's favorite spot with a waterfall behind him and a pond full of fish in front of him.

Some of the plants have been there for over 40 years and were enormous. There were paths to explore and different climates to experience.

Here is one of our favorite finds

The succulents below were only a couple of inches high. Rudy was convinced that there was a train about to come puffing out from behind them. I think because it was like a mini diorama of a desert landscape.

We went quite late in the day, so after a snack we bundled back up and went out into the cold night. On our way home we went under a railroad bridge where a huge diesel train was going above us and Rudy said from the back seat, "I had a diesel shiver". Rudy shivers when ever something is just too fabulous for words, and he has taken to pronouncing when this happens!

What a respite in the middle of a cold, cold winter. Let's go back next weekend!

Monkeys drum and monkeys hum

hum drum hum drum drum drum drum

Rudy loves to sing right now. If he can't remember the lyrics he'll just make them up - the sillier the better!

Snow

Rudy said that Margot looked like "snow" when she was eating yoghurt in her white bib. John took Rudy out on the sled on Saturday. Initially he didn't want anything to do with the snow, but after a minute on the sled he said "this is fun Dada"!

Merry Christmas

We had a lovely Christmas with the whole Harper contingent in our small apartment. It was great fun to have everyone here and Rudy especially enjoyed spending more time with his aunts and uncles.
