Lil' Harpo Fantasy League

JOIN IN THE FUN OF THE 1st LIL' HARPO CHALLENGE!

John: Mary Katherine was in town this weekend to join me on a 20-mile marathon training run. She proposed the brilliant idea that we add a poll to the blog in which we encouraged family members and friends to guess the sex and birth date of Lil' Harpo.

Here are the rules: Click "Comment" and state whether you think Lil' Harpo will be a boy or a girl. Then, taking into consideration the due date of March 9, 2007, take a guess at the actual date of birth.

Scoring: 5 pts. for guessing the baby's sex and 15 pts. for guessing the correct birth date.

Because picking the correct date of birth takes a little more luck, points will be awarded for getting close. 10 pts. for being one day off on either side; 8 pts. for two days off; 6 pts. for three days off; 5 pts. for four days off; 4 pts. for five days off; 3 pts. for six days off; 2 pts. for seven days off; 1 pt. for eight to ten days off.

Example 1: Sam believes Lil' Harpo will be a girl and will be born on March 13. Johanna then gives birth to a baby boy on March 10. Sam receives 0 pts. for missing on his 50/50 chance at guessing the sex and 6 pts. for being three days off on the date. A grand total of 6. Well done, Sam...on the date at least.

Example 2: Anne guesses that Lil' Harpo will be a boy and is correct. She selects the greatest birthday of all time, March 1, as the date of birth. Anne would receive 5 pts. for guessing the sex and 1 pt. for being ten days off. Anne ties Sam with a total of 6 pts.

Prize: Just you wait and see.

We'll have the first sonogram in less than a month, so make your guesses soon!

Jumbo Shrimp

So I start the second trimester next week! Only 6 more months to go...Here's an excerpt from a weekly email I receive about the baby's growth. For the first 3 months they equated the weekly size of the baby to every fruit under the sun, and all of a sudden it switched to seafood this month...

How your baby's growing: Your belly may soon be big enough to announce to the world that you're expecting, but your baby is still tiny. In fact, it's only about 3 inches long crown to rump — roughly the size of a jumbo shrimp — and weighs just about an ounce. Despite the small proportions, there's a fully formed baby inside your womb now. Much more proportional than it was a few weeks ago, it's head is now only about a third the size of his body. It's tiny, unique fingerprints are already in place. It's kidneys and urinary tract are functional, and it's starting to urinate out the amniotic fluid it's been swallowing. As you start your second trimester, most of your baby's critical development will be completed.
